The Daddy Brain

Posted on Jul 19 2010 - 10:34am by Mommy Posh

Wonder why our men experience “fake pregnancy symptoms” when we are pregnant?  Well, there’s actually a medical reason for that. The Today Show featured a segment this morning just for you expecting dads to talk about this phenonemon.

The Father’s brain changes when mom’s are pregnant, they too experience weight gain, nesting and develop morning sickness. Doctors have proven significant hormone changes in men that trigger sympathy pains and other symptoms, referred to as the Couvade Syndrome. Its just another way of making them feel that they are not crazy for the excess weight gain, but all in all they are just as nervous and anxious as moms-to-be!

Dads, its OK to be anxious when you are expecting your bundle of joy, soon-to-mother’s are nervous as well, since you are not alone in this new chapter of your life, just embrace it and enjoy the ride called parenting, its worth the wait!

What dads experience goes way beyond this Today show segment and the article that spurred it on. I happen to have a blog called Daddy Brain (www.daddybrain.wordpress.com), and a workshop for dads (http://www.joeyguidospeaks.com/daddy-brain-workshop/), that talk about what’s on our minds, in our hearts, and what we struggle with as parents and men.

I’m happy to see that a mommy blog is supporting dads.

    Thank you.

    Peace,

    Joey Donovan Guido
