October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we must make it a point to educate ourselves – both men (yes, even men can get breast cancer) and women – on risk factors, ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer and learn how to give ourselves a breast exam. And remember, if you are over 40 years of age or if breast cancer runs in your family, it is important to schedule an annual mammogram.

So today I am partnering with a group of scientists, physicians, and community partners in the Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program (BCERP), which is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to exploring whether exposure to certain chemicals and foods may change how girls’ bodies mature and impact breast cancer risk.

• 1 jar Bertolli® Rustic Cut™ Marinara sauce
• 1 small squash sliced
• 1 small zucchini sliced
• ½ red pepper sliced
• ¼ onion chopped
• 1 T olive oil
• 1 clove minced garlic
• salt
• pepper
• 3 c vegetable broth

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Heat olive oil in an oven safe large skillet
2. Sauté the squash, zucchini, pepper, onion, and garlic until golden about 4-5 min
3. Add vegetable broth, pasta sauce, and sliced veggies
4. Ready to serve!

Can playing sports put your child at risk for long-term injuries?

Back to school is readily approaching and while a new semester encourages meeting new friends and getting acquainted with new teachers, it also means trying out for team sports.  As a parent, we are always encouraging our kids to take part in something sports related, whether it’s youth soccer or varsity football.  We believe that we are helping our kids be physically active, but are we also increasing the risk for long term injuries?
