Kid Tech: GizmoPal2 by LG Review

Yep, I’m one of those moms. The kind of mom who watches her (almost) 7 year old walk two feet away to school, a mom that eagerly anticipates those emails about being class parent or class chaperone or class parent something oh and remember the time that I fought a two year old ? Oh yea, there are things that I hate admitting doing as a Mom for the sake of my kids but, I guess the first step is admitting it right??!

Now with my oldest in summer camp, having a total blast, who would have expected a mommy melt down?  NO PARENTS CHAPERONE ON FIELD TRIP, read my son’s permission slip. What???!  Oh hell no…What is this over-protective, crazed mom to do???!… I can either be a crazy stalker mom or…

Finally come to terms that we are in fact in the 21st century.  Like most toddlers, my 3 and 6 year old are always eager to play with almost any phone or mobile device you put in front of them, often begging for please-mom-just-10-more-minutes with the iPad®. So when I found out that I wasn’t able to tag along on his field trip (sniff sniff) I knew I had to take matters in the hands of a device called the GizmoPal by LG™.

So when I asked him if he would want a device where he can call mommy or daddy (within reason of course) he was super eager.  And his first impression did not disappoint.

GizmoPal® by LG, is designed for the children anywhere from pre- to middle- school, to easily make and receive phone calls using its single button calling and Auto-answer features. Its basically a smartwatch for kids.

The app also allows you to locate your child on a map, which is typically used to confirm they got where they were supposed to go (home from school, to their friend’s house, and so on).

The app’s settings also allow for Location Checks which send messages regarding your child’s location at a set time.

The app allows you to check battery life remotely, anytime you want and you also can set the watch to automatically answer after 10 rings.

For incoming calls, you can designate up to 4 numbers through the GizmoPal app that can call the child directly, though 2 will automatically be filled by the 2 caregivers (assuming you assign 2) that the child is able to make outgoing calls to from the device.
Texting is not an option on this device nor is accessing mobile games or music.

We put it to the test and it was indeed a special treat for him.

He pressed the “call’ button and pressed for Daddy.

“Daddy?” he said. “When are you coming home?” awwww…

Overall, we were all very impressed with the Verizon GizmoPal. The design was cute, the fit was comfortable and it worked well for everything it was meant to do. Our son quickly picked up on the commands and after some initial button-pushing excitement, settled in to only calling us when he needed to. He really enjoyed the fun sounds and loved being able to have it tell him the time.
