Tuesday Tips: {Guest Post} Posh Room Décor

I am please to welcome you to my bloggy friend, Nekky from Reflexions. I had the honor of guest posting on her blog and just had to return the favor. Nekky documents her journey through motherhood, family life, the challenges of raising TCK’s (Third Cultural Kids’) and her experiences as an Expat Woman.

Today, Nekky is sharing with us her creative and fashionable ideas for decorating your children’s space.

My Children’s Rooms

Making over your children’s rooms can be exciting. There are a lot of creative ideas that parents can come up with and every child’s room that I have seen so far have all been different and unique. Some speaks about the child’s personality, others may have a more welcoming or relaxing atmosphere, and so on.

I’m in the middle of making over my children’s separate (5yrs and 3yrs) rooms, and here are the things I must have:

  • A fascinating colorful wall is a very good idea. Bright, colorful and cheerful wall paint or a mural helps creates an exciting & positive environment for the kids.

  • Every color has its own meaning – Green is for peace, Yellow signifies cheerfulness, Red symbolizes zeal and energy, Orange is one of the best colors, it creates a lively and fun-filled environment. Combining colors can also add appeal, so go for it!

  • Add a chair and table set for the little ones or a reading table for bigger kids. This is a furniture must have. This is essential because it is at this stage that they (children) are trained to sit on a chair and perform a task on the table. This can be reading, writing or coloring. Children later put these skills to use when they enroll in school.

  • A Container Chest. Having a container chest will help your children learn how to organize their toys. This encourages good habits.

  • A cool bed, of course. Some beds are flexible and functional. They grow with kids and can save you some money. The Ikea Vikare bed is a good example. You can fold both ends in and out or just one side. It is good for the little ones, toddlers as well as teenagers.

  • A wide range of bed linens and pillows featuring all the popular cartoon characters, action figures, alphabets and interesting animals, flowers and toys are available in the market in bold primary colours that can make any child beam up in a second.

  • Night light, task light or  soothing light is great for relaxing. I find it necessary to have night lights in children’s rooms. Some people have their reservations though, but you can decide what works best for you and your child.

What are your must haves for the children’s rooms? Please share with us.
