Is Your Family Complete?

Whether you have one, two or even three kids why do family members and yes even your closest friends feel the need to pressure you about having more kids?

With two boys at home, I’m always told that a little girl will complete my family. Yes, while I love shopping for my friend’s little girls, at the end of the day, I’m a boymom and that’s all I know! And who is to say that the family that I have is not already complete??!!

Being an only child and not having been surrounded by a huge family, I too wanted a small family…so when I had B (my oldest), I was OK and didn’t feel the need to have another until a few years later.  So then we had T (another boy) and the hubby knew and that very moment we had it all.

In all honestly, I do find myself clinging extra tightly onto my youngest.  Knowing that he will be the last of the clan I can’t help myself but remember his drool-soaked, toothless grin, but immediately shake it off when a tantrum or those sleepless night occurs.

While kids are a blessing, having another child is also financially just not an option for us.  From after-school clubs, birthday parties, summer camps, kids are simply way too expensive.  So before you decide on expanding your family, this is what you will need to ponder:

  • Can we cope emotionally and physically with another child?
  • How will we juggle another child with our jobs?
  • Where do we want to be in three years? Five?
  • How will another child affect our finances? What about our marriage?
  • If we wait any longer to decide, will our choices be limited by our age?
