Hi Mommy Posh,
My husband’s work wardrobe consists of grey pants and striped dress shirts, even for casual Fridays. What pieces do you recommend for my man to wear on these casual summer days so that he looks trendy, but yet corporate?
Thank You – Erica via Ask Mommy Posh

Erica,
Dressing for your man can be tricky, some men don’t like thinking outside the box when it comes to fashion.  So by telling him how sexy he looks and how he’ll stand out in the crowd (in a good way!) he just may transform right before your eyes. Just by adding a few cool/trendy pieces to his wardrobe can update his look for the summer.

So here’s a few pieces that I think every women should buy for their man:

Cool Clothes:
1. Cotton Shirt by INC International ($40)
2. Vest by American Rag Vest ($50)
3. Linen Dress Pants by Dockers ($30)

Accessories:
4. Leather Work Bag by Banana Republic ($198)
5. Aviators by Urban Boundaries Eyewear ($3)

Shoes:
6. Boat Shoes by Crocs ($72)

Cue the somber music and with Kleenex in hand, a major milestone is readily approaching our household and I am not sure if this momma is ready – NURSERY SCHOOL!

Since ‘Lil B is showing signs of independence and readiness to learn and play with kids his own age, we have been on the hunt for the perfect school for him to attend this coming September. The school schedule for his age group (18 months to 2 years old) is for two hours/two days a week, “that’s all” you ask? well, for this first time mommy, this seems like an eternity.  Luckily in this program I am able to attend the first few classes to see how he, ok ME, copes. So during a trial run, ‘Lil B and I were able to acquaint ourselves with the program, kids and of course…separation.

Here’s are a few pics of ‘Lil B’s take on school, which made me wish for my “little B Bear” to be little forever!

This is an incredible milestone – with so many more to come!

If you think your ‘Lil one is ready to conquer the world of pre-school, here’s just a few tips from my teacher friends:

  • Get your kids in bed earlier each night.
  • Sunday night is a great night for choosing the week’s outfits.
  • Read to your children and converse with your incoming kindergartners in complete sentences.
  • Celebrate the milestone! Yes, you may be sad about your “baby,” especially if your youngest or only child, like mine is starting school, but this is a happy occasion and your children will sense your anxiety.
  • Don’t forget to ask how their days was.  This is a great way to develop their language and speech skills.

Ok, so now its your turn, what was your most recent “Mommy Moment?”

Over the 4th of July weekend, Lil B, hubby and I, headed to Long Beach, NY to spend some much needed R&R with friends and family. I am not a beach person (I am still finding sand in my slippers), but since having my son, I have become “Mrs Adventurous” and love seeing things through my son’s eyes.  But mind you, even though sharing this experience was pure joy it was a far cry from just hanging out my with friends.  So take note when bringing your baby to the beach, you need to be particular cautious, especially with those rays of sunshine.

So here are a few tips to keep in mind when going the beach with your baby.

Tip 1: Cover up!  a summer hat, sunscreen (SPF 50), beach umbrella also with a SPF of 50 are must haves when exposing your ‘Lil one to the sun.

Tip 2: With all the beach gear needed to occupy your ‘Lil one plus these; towel, change of clothes, diapers, wipes, beach blanket and a small portable beach chair, I recommend just using one bag for everything.  Moms, I know this sounds like a lot, but your back will thank you in the end.

Tip 3: Get his feet wet!  ‘Lil B was not happy when the “cool” ocean water touch his toes, but by the third or forth lap up and down the beach he soon began to open up and didn’t mind it. Also, don’t forget to protect his tiny feet with water shoes.

Tip 4: Occupy them!  Toys and more toys!

Tip 5: Snack it up.  A hungry baby is not a happy baby so use a soft sided cooler, like PACK IT (Amazon, $19.99), to carry storage for your milk, fruit and water.

Tip 6: Don’t even bother bringing a magazine or book cause you won’t read it.  You’ll be watching your baby like a hawk.  By applying and reapplying sunscreen, checking his diaper and building sand castles. And besides that’s just one extra thing not to bring.

Tip 7: Don’t forget to drink plenty of water!

Tip 8: You’ll need wheels on the beach.  With all the accessories needed for you and your baby, make sure you take a proper stroller (preferably a jogging stroller) or even a beach cart (ie Nantucket Beach Buggy), to carry everything back and forth to/from the car. With the heavy and hot sand this can slow things down or even cause back injury when you have to carry all the beach gear plus your baby so with a cart things can be simple as 1-2-3!

Tip 9: Above all, just HAVE FUN!
