Let me begin first by congratulating my sis-in-law who recently gave birth to her first baby this week.  Having being there for her during her maternity stories, hospital concerns and first time mom jitters became my incentive for writing this post.  How soon have I too forgotten the cravings, anxiety and emotional ups and downs I had experienced during my pre and post pregnancy stages, that no books and/or prenatal classes had prepared me for.

So if you are planing or expecting your first child, this post is for you…here’s the top items that “No One Tells You Before and After Giving Birth”

Although it seems so far away, high school and college is just around the corner for your little ones, so why not get an early start and set up a savings plan.  An example, of a kid-friendly education savings plan is the 529 Plan which is designed to help families set aside funds for future college costs.

So when I heard that Tom Cruise gave his daughter, Suri, a multi-million dollar check for her upcoming fifth birthday I couldn’t be even more jealous.  Five million dollars to be exact.  Damn, I really need to get ahead of the game.

“Tom decided to add $5 million — in honor of her milestone birthday — to Suri’s trust fund,” a family insider tells OK! Magazine. “She already has several million in the fund.”

And although it seems out of control, it isn’t. Suri “won’t be able to touch the money until she’s 18,” the insider adds.

“Tom wants to make sure Suri’s future is worry-free financially,” the insider explains.

Whatever amount you decide to contribute to your child’s savings plan – from $100 to $5 Million – the point is that you are getting the ball rolling, so hat’s off to ya!

The American Academy of Pediatrics now advises parents to keep toddlers in rear-facing car seats until age two, or until they exceed the height or weight limit for the car seat, which can be found on the back of the seat.

Previously, the AAP advised parents to keep kids rear-facing as long as possible, up to the maximum limit of the car seat, and this has not changed. But it also cited one year and 20 pounds as the minimum for flipping the seat, which many parents and pediatricians interpreted as conventional wisdom on the best time to make the switch. The new policy clarifies the AAP’s recommendation, making age two the new guideline—a real game-changer for parents of toddlers.

“A rear-facing child safety seat does a better job of supporting the head, neck and spine of infants and toddlers in a crash, because it distributes the force of the collision over the entire body,” said Dennis Durbin, M.D., F.A.A.P., a pediatric emergency physician and co-scientific director of the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and lead author of the policy statement and accompanying technical report.

Am I the only mom out there that is not loving daylight savings time? I remember a time (10 months ago, to be exact!) that daylight savings time was a celebration…sleeping an extra hour was pure bliss, but now as a mom who is trying to get her little one on a sleep schedule, daylight savings time has become my worst nightmare.

I grew accustom to the fact that Lil’ B would wake up at 3:30am and then at 7am, but now with the time change, his little inner clock has woken him up at 2:30a and at 6:30..ugh!  what is a mom to do?

In my research, it turns out that I am not alone…there’s even a Facebook page dedicated entirely to the cause: Mothers Against Daylight Savings Time. With 1,293 members. That’s exactly the place where I can bitch and moan!

I have already had three cups of coffee and its only 9:30a…it’s gonna be a long day!
