My Son, Lil B, has reached yet another milestone at 6 months and 3 weeks old, and that is learning how to drink from a sippy cup.  There are many great brands out there to choose from but, looking for the perfect first cup can be somewhat challenging.  Of course this neurotic (yes, first time mom syndrome) has been busy tring to find the best product for my little one.

Here are few sippy and training cups that I may suggest using:

Wonder why our men experience “fake pregnancy symptoms” when we are pregnant?  Well, there’s actually a medical reason for that. The Today Show featured a segment this morning just for you expecting dads to talk about this phenonemon.

The Father’s brain changes when mom’s are pregnant, they too experience weight gain, nesting and develop morning sickness. Doctors have proven significant hormone changes in men that trigger sympathy pains and other symptoms, referred to as the Couvade Syndrome. Its just another way of making them feel that they are not crazy for the excess weight gain, but all in all they are just as nervous and anxious as moms-to-be!

Dads, its OK to be anxious when you are expecting your bundle of joy, soon-to-mother’s are nervous as well, since you are not alone in this new chapter of your life, just embrace it and enjoy the ride called parenting, its worth the wait!

Looking for something exciting to do with you little ones?  yes, its hot out there so why not enjoy the cool temps by catching a movie with your baby. National Amusements offers a great program – monthly – for parents and babies called “Baby Pictures”.  Its a great way for parents to enjoy the latest flix with your baby in tow. Price of admission is $6.  Next months flix is “Eat Love and Pray” with Julia Roberts.

Target is doing something really neat from July 16-18 called Arts & Wonder: Free Family Event. There are more than two dozen various museums and the like participating in New York City. You can do anything from “Kids Dance” as part of Midsummer’s Night Swing at Lincoln Center to taking in an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art or a concert in the park by the New York Philharmonic. This is the weekend for free culture.

Also check out your Public Library and Barnes and Noble they offer FREE – weekly – reading programs for kids of all ages. I recently took my 6 month old to a Children’s Storytime event and he had a blast, and did I mention FREE!

And of course do not forget your local Gymboree, Little Gym or Musical Munchkins. They to offer great programs for kids of all ages.

So, off you go—have a great ol’ time for me.

How do you soothe your little one?

As of recently, my son has been screaming uncontrollably, especially at night.  Since I am a SAHM (stay at home mom) I feel responsible to sooth Lil B, but I too am exhausted from his day of screaming.  Any others mothers out there feel my pain?  of course, there are many reasons why my little one might be crying:

  • Hunger
  • A dirty diaper
  • Tired
  • Wants to be held
  • Tummy troubles (gas, colic, and more)
  • Needs to burp
  • Too cold or too hot
  • Teething
  • Wants less/more stimulation
  • Not feeling well

Of course babies have their own reason for crying and the above may not be true for your lil one, but I have learned that the only thing that seems to calm down Lil B was a blow-dryer! Its noise, distracted him long enough to calm him.  So for this reason I am glad I had one handy.  You should try it out and let us know if this or any other methods worked for your crying baby.
