Geez, when they say every baby is different, they sure were right….Bringing home baby #2 a month ago has left me to ask myself “how did I get into this mess?”. While trying to figure out Lil T’s noises, sleeping patterns and the constant pressure of having “The Happiest Baby on the Block” had led me to realize that just because you have one child doesn’t mean you have mastered anything. So thanks to the folks over at Portlandia for providing us newbies with a little bit of comic relief on this thing called parenting. What are your parenting tips on handling a newborn?

So all in all, when it comes to parenting, sometimes it’s better to trust your instincts over something you read in a book.

While I am not by any means considered an “earthy” mom, I do however find myself on occasion using products that are eco-friendly, especially when it comes to baby products.  So when I had the opportunity to try out Jessica Alba‘s eco-friendly, non toxic baby products called the The Honest Company, I jumped at the chance.

I was recently given a small sample of diapers and wipes to try out and was sold immedialty on how cute, trendy and how eye-catching the packaging was.

Besides its eco-friendly, non toxic baby and home products, what impressed me the most is that the company takes in supporting companies that give back. So I was pleased to learn that The Honest Company donates time, products, and money to a great organization. Their current charitable partner is Baby2Baby.org, a non-profit that supplies families in need with essential baby gear and clothing for children up to age 12.

I’m 5 months pregnant (21 weeks to be exact) and while ‘Lil B attends nursery school and learning new and exciting adventures, I am eagerly spending all my days and nights with him before the arrival of baby #2 in February.  Its somewhat bitter sweet to know that in only a few short months, Lil B will no longer be the one and only running things at home. So I thought I’d share some special moments (cue to Boyz II Men “Its so hard to say goodbye to yesterday“) of ‘Lil B and myself spending some mommy and me moments.

And because its so important to carve sometime out with your kids, here are some great advice on what I learned from friends and family on making time with them:

1.    Set a “weekly” date. Go for a bike ride, walk the dog, have lunch at your kid’s favorite restaurant, or have dress-up time – whatever your kid likes to do.  Marking your dates down on a calendar is a great idea and shows your children you make this time a priority.

2.    Choose group activities that everyone can participate in – whether you’re crafting, cooking, or playing at the park, make sure there’s something fun to do for each member of your family.

3.   Write notes and drop them into their lunch boxes. Be creative here!

How do you make time for each of your little ones?

How to potty train your child

Every parent has to go through certain things in raising their child and potty training is one thing most parents fear.  The different theories behind how to train your child, advice from friends and family, and the stories from people whose child woke up on day and decided they would potty train themselves.  This can be a very stressful time with your child.  The constant asking them if they have to go potty, accidents, self doubt that you are doing something wrong, and just over all frustration.  Don’t worry because you are not the first parent to have issues potty training and you won’t be the last.
