Not so long ago do I remember being pregnant during the hot summer months and boy oh boy was it a challenge!  All I wanted to do was run around naked.  So POSH Mammas-to-be, I know the feeling, so if indecent exposure is not up your alley then check out these tips for beating the heat!

Keep hydrated.  Keep an icy water bottle on hand when running errands, and eat snacks that provide hydration such as melons and cucumbers.  Also being dehydrated can lead to urinary tract infections, a common ailment of pregnancy.

Stay Indoors. With the baby on the way, you and your mate might be thinking of ways to stay on budget, but skimping on AC is not the way to go, especially when you have to endure the brutal heat.  So turn on the AC, wear cool, lightweight clothing, kick back and enjoy some ME-time!

Inhale/Exhale.  Breathing is also an important factor in keeping cool.  Breathing lets off heat, so make sure you have a good breathing pattern.

Lather Up.  Use a high SPF sunscreen. If you have fair skin, use SPF 30 or 45. Make sure your time in the sun is limited and don’t head out without sunscreen or, better yet, sunblock.

We soon have to switch gears for school shopping, for some kids and parents that means summer is over, but parents what better way to bring in the school year? BOND WITH YOUR KIDS ! Without this being a stressful time for everyone, just sit back and enjoy the ride, ’cause we’ll soon be saying “where did the time go.”

Our friends over at Master Lock® has hired a new specialist on student life to help students safely and securely navigate this school year in style. The Master Mind, a suave and funny college grad, is staring in a humorous online video series on youtube, in which he, along with his clever Little Sister, are setting out to answer students’ most frequent, awkward and perplexing questions. Check out their Facebook page.

As a former school-goer and now as a parent, my best advice to both kids and parents is to ensure that communication is key!  With social media networks and high tech gadgets so privy it can leave a parent not knowing what’s going on in their kids lives.  So be active in your kids life and be in the “know” (i.e Facebook, Texting, etc).  We can be our child’s friend and parent, by them showing us respect and trust the means of communication will come so natural.

As I browse my favorite sites I came across this great list of celebrating things you like about yourself.  In the end, I found the source of where it all began and had to join in on the fun. Elena from Ciao Mom is doing a series on Reclaiming Me and I absolutely love this concept.  Being a mom is a selfless act and we tend to forget ourselves in the midst of doing it all.  So by reclaiming yourself and knowing your worth join in on the fun and post your own list of things that you like about yourself.

And now the list…Things I Like About Me

  1. I like that am willing to try anything once.
  2. I like that I am actually a great mother. LOL..Being a mother seemed like a foreign place for me, but now that I have my son there are no words to expressed this unconditional love.
  3. I like that I can forgive people.  I don’t believe in keeping grudges, its a waste of time, especially when the other person is enjoying their life.  Besides life if too short.
  4. I like that I can love hard and have had no regrets for doing so.
  5. I like that I am a city girl.  You can’t pull the wool over these eyes..LOL.
  6. I like that I have continued my love for blogging.  Its been 4 years and counting. So how am I doing so far?
  7. I like that I am creative thinker.
  8. I like that my husband and I can still make each other laugh.  Not everyday is a bed of roses, but through whatever bumpy road we may come across we are in this together.
  9. I like that I can take criticism.  This can be a hard thing to do, but you learn and grow and become a better person because of it.
  10. I like taking risk.
  11. I like that I can make someone feel comfortable in just meeting them in the first five minutes.
  12. I like that I can speak my mind and appreciate it when I get it in return.
  13. I like that I am biracial and so is my son.  It use to bother me when strangers would stop me in the street and ask me if I’m the Nanny, but now I just find it funny (see #3) .
  14. I like that I have curly hair.  There were times that I wished for straight locks, don’t we all wish for what we don’t have.  But I learned to embrace my versatile hair.

Wow, now I feel like I can conquer the world…ok, now its your turn.
