Unapologetically Strong…For Being a Stay at Home Mom

After giving birth to my son, I had spent those first six months beating myself up and apologizing to others why I decided to become a stay at home mom. But now looking back almost three years later, why did I even have to apologize for following my heart? Well, here’s why!

You see, before having my son, my career, happy hour, commuting, defined who I was…So when I learned that I was pregnant, giving up these such “luxuries” wasn’t even an after thought.  Until the birth of son.  Holding him, smelling him and looking into eyes was the moment that I fell in love and knew right then and there that I needed to decide the role I would play as the mother of my child.  So when my husband brought up the inevitable, of me going back to work I skirted around the questions and couldn’t imagine going back (this thought never spoken outloud).  Would I be a working mom who would continue to provide for my family and further advance my career, or would I stay at home as the full-time care provider? Would I really just “throw it all away”?

Both paths were scary for me. Ultimately, I followed my heart and chose to stay home with my son.

With months passing, I realized that I no longer felt guilty of giving up my career and since I no longer had to apologize to myself for being a stay at home mom, I felt proud when someone would ask what I did for a living.  and that’s being the CEO of my home.

As women, we are notorious for apologizing to ourselves and others..so make a stance today and STOP!  For another Unapologetically Strong story, check out spokeswomen Erin Andrews via the YouTube link….
